Old World monkeys are native to Africa and Asia. They belong to the infaorder Catarrhini, which refers to the shape of their nose. They have narrow, downward-facing nostrils as opposed to the round side-facing nostrils of New World monkeys. Old World monkeys are typically larger than New World monkeys and they are diurnal (day-active). All species have fingernails similar to those in humans and most have sitting pads on their rumps called ischial callosities. Old World monkeys are divided into two subfamilies, Cercopithecoidea (cercopithecines) and Colobinae (colobines).
